Jimmy and I were talking in the hallway yesterday about the food crisis and the end of Empire. We ran into another of our colleagues and asked him what he thought, but he hadn't heard about the food shortages or the food riots. Sigh. I don't think that the U.S. MSM has paid nearly enough attention to this issue. Why not?
And, is it all caused by rising gas prices or are there other factors?

Haven't you heard? There's an election going on!
I wish I could say I am surprised. Bringing this up would require plans that cost money... and a selflessness that seems to be missing every four years. Right now, we're missing both.
The Daily Show was all over it last night, even bumping election coverage to make fun of it.
Oh, you are so ahead of the curve! There are two stories in the W Post today about just this.
Really, I've seen a bunch of stuff. Then again, I also listen to George Noory at night before I fall asleep and he always talks about it. Anyway, a pretty decent article about it (and the complexities involved) just came out in Newsweek. http://www.newsweek.com/id/134311?from=rss?nav=slate
